A spokesman for the US Treasury Department told AFP that the sanctions would hit "Russia, its backers and its war machine."
The spokesman also said the sanctions would be imposed jointly by the US Treasury and State Departments.
The US Treasury Department said it would be "the largest sanctions action since Vladimir Putin began a further offensive against Ukraine."
According to the Russian "Komsomolskaya Pravda" website reported on February 22, Victoria Newland, under Secretary of State for Political Affairs of U.S. Department of state, said, the new sanctions planned by the United States and the European Union against Russia will be "devastating" and will create obstacles for Russia to circumvent existing sanctions.
:“We will implement a new round of devastating sanctions, hundreds of measures will be rolled out in the next few days,”Nuland said in a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She said one of the main directions of future sanctions would be to “stifle” Moscow’s efforts to circumvent existing anti-Russian measures.
The United States stated that it plans to impose new sanctions on Russia starting from the 23rd.
